Laura Mulvey's Theory

One part of her male gaze theory suggests that the camera / audience always represents a heterosexual man's perspective of the scene objectifying women. Another part of her male gaze theory suggests that women are only portrayed as one of two possibilities. either a virginal innocent character or a sexy "whore". This is called the virgin / whore dichotomy. The theory suggests that women are only seen as objects and are only admired for their physical appearance. Also it suggests that women these days only view themselves from the male perspective. Mulvey said that we live in a patriarchal society where men set the rules and have dominance over women even though we don't want to believe it if we look at it from the bigger picture we can see its becoming reality.
